The response and support from churches and individuals in the town has been encouraging. 42 attended the initial volunteers meeting mid-February, most of them signing up to various teams. A steering group and treasurer have been appointed and representatives in participating churches. They are now a registered charity under the umbrella of St Andrew’s church and belong to the Trussell Trust Foodbank, making them the 187th foodbank in the UK and will work according to the Trussell operating manual which will help to ensure proper procedures are in place before the official opening.
Clevedon Foodbank has already received items from Lidl and Crisis Centre Ministries. The first fund-raising event was run by Mike and Marion Spencer as a Silent Auction which raised £312.50.
There will be an information stall at Hope in the Square 19 May in Queen’s Square.

The following week another team will replace them, joining Cindy and Martyn Frampton, the co-ordinators. Over the two weeks our folk will serve the church in many ways including leading 6 services, 2 parenting seminars, events for elderly and ladies, talks in the high school and to a men’s meeting about drugs, and activities for children and young people.

Four residents and one ex-resident from Andrew House, Clevedon will be making a leap of faith to raise funds and to say thank you to the charity that has supported them through some challenging times.
They will be taking part in a parachute jump on 25th April* in Netheravon, Salisbury. Money raised will go to Alabaré Christian Care and Support, who run Andrew House.

* The jump had to be postponed because of bad weather but will not be on 7 May.

Andrew House is a Supported Housing project for men recovering from drug and alcohol dependency. It can take up to 11 men, aged between 18 and 60, who have completed a rehabilitation programme but feel they need further support before they move on to independent living. Members of staff offer expertise and support in a number of areas including drug and alcohol work, housing matters, finances and mental health issues and will signpost service users to other appropriate services and agencies. They also provide service users with basic life skills training where necessary.

This is an amazing project on our doorstep and if you would like to support them please log onto www.charitygiving.co.uk/parachute26 to donate.

Or if you prefer to sponsor in person please tel: Andrew House on 879899.

This was originally posted Feb 10th. We now have some updates from Tim Simpson which are in RED. Further info will be shared as received.

The following is a summary of an email from Tim Simpson, chairman of Churches Together in Clevedon, about exciting prayer initiatives in the area and nationally:

“Nationwide plans are underway for perhaps the largest prayer gathering in this nation for a very long time, Saturday 29th September Wembley Stadium. This will be a real call to God on behalf of our nation.

”Why not come and hear the vision behind Wembley and indeed of how we can prepare ourselves before God for it. Bristol EA have invited the organiser of the event Dr.Jonathan Oleyede to speak in Bristol on Wednesday 28th March 7.30 at Elim, Jamaica Street. Poster follows:

“Prior to that meeting Jonathan will speak to a smaller group of folk who already have a heart for prayer, at Emmanuel Chapel, Henbury 2pm-4.30pm 28th March. Any prayer leaders please feel free to invite your groups.

“There is also a possibility of holding a Bristol Area stadium prayer time at Ashton Gate Stadium and this is currently being looked at for the evening of Pentecost Sunday 27th May. Listen out for further details. Update - The proposed gathering on Bank Holiday Sunday, 27th May @ Ashton Gate (Bristol City) Stadium for Greater Bristol-focussed Repentance, Re-Dedication, Receiving & Reform, will be from 2 – 6 pm. Many church leaders across the city are giving this adventure their support.

“As you can see, much to get excited about but also much to pray for. We must somehow not just get caught up in the euphoria but remember we are praying as an act of repentance in the hope of seeing our nation changed.”

If you are interested in going to Wembley or want further information, in the first instance contact Sarah Sweet or Stephen Brain. A list is being built by Tim Simpson for travel to Wembley and we can pass numbers to him.
